On December 20, 2021, the contract for the project “You are not alone with us – day care program for the homeless and the elderly at risk of homelessness” was signed, funded by the European Union, European Social Fund, project call Improvement of existing and expansion of uninstitutional services care in the area of selected urban agglomerations / areas Osijek, Pula, Rijeka, Slavonski Brod, Split, Zadar and Zagreb (UP.02.2.2.15.0083) with partners the City of Rijeka and the Home for the Elderly Volosko. The project, funded entirely by the funds of the EU in the amount of HRK 973.399,48, envisages the improvement of the day care service, which includes additional activities: specialised counselling – psychosocial assistance, group and individual psychotherapy and sociotherapy (with emphasis on the elderly).

In the day centre Haven House, is available the possibility of participating in the services which include re-socialisation with various activities, including horticultural therapy. Clients receive assistance in arranging social status, and therefore there is a social worker available to clients in the day centre and in the outreach services. A special focus of the project is the systematic work with the elderly who are also users of day care services, and live in demanding living conditions and can not meet basic needs and are at risk of homelessness.

The key project activity related to this group are (in addition to specialised activities organised in the day centre) outreach services which includes the preparation and delivery of meals, ensuring the basic needs of personal hygiene and living space hygiene. For the purposes of the above, one employee was trained as a caregiver and also delivers meals. A mobile team is planned for outreach services: driver, caregiver, psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, nurse. Team members will also participate in activities planned at the day centre. In order to strengthen the capacities of professionals working with the homeless, trainings are planned for professionals who are in direct work with clients – the homeless and the elderly at risk of homelessness.
