Work activation and sustainable development of Depaul Croatia are harmoniously connected in our programs. This year, the development of these programs was supported by INA-Industrija nafte, d.d. and we are happy that with this support our collaboration continued with co-financing in Ina’s Green Belt project application.
The project “Recycle, reactivate and rehabilitate”, which has been implemented in H-Garden since June this year, is part of this competition. It is aimed at encouraging the involvement of socially marginalized groups and volunteers in the production and distribution of perennials of autochthonous varieties in the Garden of the Homeless in Rijeka (eg. sage, lavender, myrtle, tamarisk, mulberry, mulberry). Planting takes place in Rijeka and Lika (Klanac). An important part of this project is the development of gardening skills and education in the field of horticulture and ecology for program users and the general public. The project is complementary to the food distribution program of Depaul Croatia and includes active measures to implement the concept of waste reduction by recycling kitchen waste that is used in the production of fertilizers by composting, bioenzymes and vermicompost.
Our H-Garden nursery is also an eco area. Complementary to other programs of Depaul Croatia and includes composting, development of bioenzymes through the use of food waste, production of earthworms and composting. These are innovations that introduce the practice of saving resources, reducing the generation of waste, and saving energy. In H-Garden, education is also held on a weekly basis, conducted by the manager and volunteer associates, and the local community is also involved in special events.
